We have held our annual Volunteers’ Evening for the last 4 years, the first being held in October 2011. The aim of the evening is to invite students, not necessarily society members, to meet local district/ divisions leaders and find out more about volunteering opportunities in the local area.
As well as a short presentation about what we do as a society, we have representatives from the local Scout and Guide districts to talk to students about the opportunities and how to get involved in flexible volunteering locally. There is no obligation to sign up, and we don’t assign students to groups on the night, but take down names of those interested in volunteering and work with the districts after the evening to places students with the most appropriate groups.
The event has grown each year, and in 2013 we had our biggest attendance yet, with over 30 students going on to volunteer locally. If you missed the evening but would like to get involved in volunteering, just drop us an email and we’ll work to find you a suitable group.
